Don't believe that practice "death" 1-2-3 and so on. The "response" type of street attack is a viable or particularly useful training exercise. Example: He does this, I do it. For attack A, I use defense A.
Realize that there are too many variables in the street struggle, too many unexpected situations. Uncle Murphy rules this habitat. Terrain, weather, injury, and any unforeseen deficits are a major problem.
Various attackers [size, number, weight, height, mental state, tolerance to pain, clothing] are another major obstacle.
Train your "tools", study your "goals" and master your "starting strategy". Anything that has been "rehearsed", the initial sudden and explosive actions are unrealistic.
Anyone with practical experience knows this. Nothing will go wrong....... will! Therefore, your training must emphasize instinct and spontaneous "reactions" rather than rote responses. You "catch" anything the attacker gives you, or you need to make any openings, but there is no way to know this beforehand!
Many so-called "combat" systems have missed the most basic training principles........ K.I.S.S. !
The filled syllabus may be "looking" impressive and "complete," but given the harsh reality of survival, they are counterproductive.
Get the "tools" in the old school series. Those who practice video OS1, the basics of walking combat know what I am talking about. Remember to practice REACTIONS without responding! Practice reacting in some way. This is a combination of two or three techniques that are practiced over and over again.
Homework: A combination of short axe, long axe, chin stab and knee [from video OS1]. On SparPro or heavy duty packaging - what can you hit? Practice 300 times a day. Let me know what you found after 5 days.
