Sagaing, the monastery center of Myanmar used to be the royal capital

It is said that everyone wants to have a 15 minute fame in his life. When we apply this to Sagaing, the city can claim to have two 15-minute fame; from 1315 to 1364, it first appeared in the capital of the Sagaing Kingdom, and the second appeared in 1760. To the Royal Capital of Myanmar in 1763.

The former royal capital of the capital, Sagaing, is located 13 miles / 21 km southwest of Mandalay. It was founded in 1315 AD, after the fall of Pagan from 1315 AD to 1364 AD. In other words, for 49 years, the so-called "burmanised" [mountain] Sagaing Kingdom. In 1364, the Sagaing Kingdom was no longer Exist, the capital was transferred to In-wa / Ava, and Sagaing's first 15-minute reputation has ended. From 1760 to 1763, King Aungdawgyi, the son of King Alaungpaya, ruled for three years, and it is the royal capital of the Kingdom of Myanmar. And got a second 15 minute reputation.

Sagaing may be eclipsed by its more famous historical and cultural neighbours and other capitals. Mandalay, Amarapura and Ava / Inwa, without a mild climate, the city has many lush green forests, Ayeyawaddy along the lush forest-covered hills, soothing and quiet, surrounded by Sagaing, its numerous hillside towers and around 600 Pagoda temple.

It is synonymous with problems related to Buddhist studies and spiritual cultivation. In fact, many Burmese people believe that they are the center of life of the Buddhist faith, so it is the most famous pilgrimage site in the country. The city - after Bagan - you can find the second most religious buildings. These buildings have approximately 7.000 pongyis [monks] and approximately 3.000 Thi La Shins [nuns]. These monks and nuns, due to the lack of a better description, are not ordinary members of the Buddhist Medal, but the very serious pursuers of the ultimate truth. In addition, Sagaing Hill is the place with the largest number of women in Myanmar. All of this makes Sagaing the most important monastery and religious center in Myanmar.

The Burmese people think that they are all "mountain hills". The fabulous Mount Meru and the background of this simple earthly event become irrelevant. The relatively small Sagaing Town is a quiet, unhurried place. As in the past, Sagaing Hill still provides a refuge for those who want to leave the city, and come here to think. Some of them stayed for a day or a week or a month, and others stayed for a lifetime.

When it came to Sagaing Hill, the later King Bodawpaya, one of the five sons of King Alaungpaya, hid in order to allow King Singu Min to try to get all legitimate heirs to inherit the throne.

Founded in 1315 by Athinhkaya Thin Khayar Saw Yun, son of King Thiinhu of Pinin, there are now about 70,000 prisoners in the corner of the Ayeyawaddy River heading west. The rivers, lifelines and pride of Burma, flowing along the foot of the mountain; calm and steady during the period from September to July, roaring and unruly during the monsoon season of Nayon / June, Waso / July, Wagaung / August and Thawthalin / September.

There are different sizes of golden and white pagodas on the top of Sagaing. There are many forest monasteries on the hillside. Each slope or ridge is occupied by seemingly endless stairs with or without roofs and weaving together in a religious network. The staircase leads to the top of the hill, from which you can admire the city, the hillside and the unforgettable panorama of Ayeyawaddy. Sagaing is also known for its very rhythmic traditional dance and music, known as "Mozar Byaw", a dance of long drum music.

The quiet and peaceful Sagaing can boast many pagodas built by the king. Among the many religious buildings, the time to remind Saga is the capital of a powerful kingdom:

A] Soon Oo Ponya Shin Pagoda B] Kaunghmudaw Pagoda C] Hsinayashin Pagoda D] Htupayon Pagoda E] Ngadatgyi Pagoda F] Aungmyelawka Pagoda H] U Min Kyaukse Pagoda H] U Min Thonze Pagoda K] Pa Ba Kyaung L] Tilawkaguru Cave Temple And Myipaukgyi Pagoda and M] Sagain Zay.

A] Soon Oo Ponya Shin Pagoda

The impressive Soon Oo Ponya Shin Pagoda' is located above the second peak of the Sagaing hills and was built in 1312 by the court courtier Oo Ponya of the Pinya period.

Pinya is one of those small kingdoms that like the Inwa / Ava kingdom. Soon the height of the Oo Ponya Shin pagoda is about 95 feet / 29 meters - plus an 8 meter high ' Hti' / umbrella. There is a beautiful main altar on the pagoda, with huge bronze frogs in front and wheels as donation boxes.

B] Kaunghmudaw Pagoda

' Kaunghmudaw Pagoda' Probably the most famous pagoda in Sagaing, it is actually not in Sagaing, but in the distance of Sagaing Mountain about 6 miles / about 10 kilometers.

The pagoda was built in 1636 by King Thalun of the Hamsawaddy dynasty. He moved the second capital of the Kingdom of Myanmar from Pegu [Hamsawaddy] to Ava in 1635 to commemorate Ava as the royal capital of Myanmar. King Taren built the pagoda to accommodate the Buddha's Kandy teeth #39; and King Dhammazedi [he was a former monk and one of the two teachers - the other was Dhammapala - the daughter of King Razadarit, later the Queen Shinsawbu] The charity work alms - bowl, which was previously preserved in Mahazedi Pagoda in Pegu.

The Kaunghmudaw Pagoda and its egg-shaped dome were built in the Ceylonese style after the "Mahaceti Pagoda'". The dome is 900 feet / 274 meters high and 151 feet / 46 meters high, above the three circular terraces.

The ground terrace is decorated with 120 [guardian spirits], each with its own niche. Surrounded by a 812-foot/1.5-meter-high 812 ring, the dome features a molded stone pillow with a hollowed-out head.

During the 'Thadingyut Light Festival' when Burmese Buddhists from all over the country came to the pagoda to celebrate the end of the "Lenten" with the Festival #39; the oil lamp was placed inside. The white 8.5-foot/2.5-meter-high marble pillar at the corner of the pagoda tells the history of the Kaunghmudaw pagoda in the Burmese script. One of the two lakes behind the pagoda is "Myitta Kan' it is said that a leaf standing around it does not touch its surface.

C] Hsin Mya Shin Pagoda

This pagoda was built by King Monhyin in 1429 and is also known as the "Many Elephant Pagodas". ' Hsinmyashin Pagoda' The road between Kaunghmudaw Pagoda and Sagaing was first destroyed in the 1482 earthquake. After repairing, it was destroyed for the second time in about 250 years, and an earthquake in 1955 was almost completely shot down. Hsinmyashin was rebuilt for the third time in 1980. There are two colorful elephants at the long entrance of the pagoda.

D] Htupayon Pagoda

' Htupayon Pagoda' is located on the west side of Sagaing Province and was built by King Narapati in 1444. The pagoda has not yet been completed, and only the 98-foot / 30-meter-high base is standing.

The pagoda architectural style it represents is very rare in Myanmar. The Htupayon Pagoda was destroyed by the earthquake in 1838, and King Pagan of the Konbaung dynasty had begun to rebuild it and was enthroned in 1846 before it could be completed.

Related to the history of this pagoda is the history of Shan Prince Thonganbaw, who wants to rebuild the Nanzhao Empire in Yunnan, China. Under the chase of the Chinese army, King Narapati provided him with shelter in Ava and defeated the Chinese. A year later they returned with more power, instead of surrendering to them, and Prince Thonganbaw committed suicide. After giving up his body, Ava is committed to loyalty to the Chinese.

E] Ngadatgyi Pagoda

Like the Htupayon Pagoda on the west side of Sagaing, Ngadatgyi Pagoda' was built by King Pindale in 1657 and he inherited King Thalun.

There are huge Buddha statues in the pagoda. King Peder was executed by his brother and his entire family in 1661.

F] Aungmyelawka Pagoda

In 1783, King Bodawpaya built the Aungmyelawka Tower ' also known as Eindawya Pagoda' not far from the Htupayon Pagoda on the Ayeyawaddy River; it had been spent many years before he became king, according to his father, Alaungpaya The king's widow - he has actually reached the throne. But when his brother Cincin Bisin left his father's widow and made his son Singh become king, Bodawpaya had to hide until his time in 1782 to win the throne.

The Aungmyelawka Pagoda is entirely made of sandstone and is a cylindrical replica of its original Pagan / Bagan / Nyaung Oo Shwezigon pagoda. As other kings often do, Bodawpaya's motive for building this pagoda was to redeem the necessary cruelty during his reign.

G] Datpaungzu Pagoda

' Datpaungzu Pagoda' is more youthful, less historical and religious than the relics it contains. The pagoda can only be built after the completion of the Myitkyina Railway, a repository of respected religious buildings that must be demolished or relocated to pave the way for the railway crossing the Awa Bridge.

H] U Min Kyaukse Pagoda

"Min Min Kyaukse Pagoda'" is built on the easternmost point of the two ridges where Sagaing rises. From the roof of the pagoda you can see the beauty of the Ayeyawaddy River and Mandalay.

Shwe Ume Kyaung is attached to the U Min Kyaukse Pagoda.
