Pray, eat, rest at the Green Mountain Temple in Muara Tebas, Kuching

For those who watched the memoirs 2010 film starring Julia Roberts, eat, pray, love, for me to pray, eat, rest in the "Qingshan Temple" [Green Mountain Temple], in Muara, Kuching, Sarawak Tebas's Fujian dialect is called "Cheh Sua." It is of course not the same sequence or scene, but very close to it, as it was experienced in a trip to the Malay fishing village at the mouth of the Sarawak River or the estuary, called Kampung Muara Tebas in Kuching, Sarawak.

Prayer is carried out at the Green Mountain Temple in Kuching. If you are a Buddhist, or pray for the main god of the temple, Sakyamuni Buddha and other Chinese gods, such as the goddess of the sea god. If not, please don't feel frustrated by visiting this 200-year-old Chinese temple because of its history, design, panoramic views and the charming uncoordinated villages of magnificent temples thriving in Malay fishing.

Located on a 2.5-acre ancient site on a hilltop 120 feet above sea level, Green Hill Temple Kuching is like a silent and alert sentinel overlooking the Malay fishing village below and the far south China Sea. In the past few centuries, sea travelers will pay tribute to the temple and thank them for safely wearing the Vietnamese Sea to the bustling Muara Tebas trading port. They will also receive blessings for health and good luck.

My family and I left for Green Hill Temple Kuching or Cheh Sua at noon in the morning. It is a quiet and peaceful trip, 35 km from Kampung Muara Tebas and a 30-minute drive from Kuching City in Sarawak. When we go to the normal weekend, not on the first or fifteenth day of the first lunar month or the Lunar New Year, hundreds or even thousands of believers and devotees flock to the Green Mountain Temple. There are enough parking spaces; there is no parking fee or entrance fee. Otherwise, local boys in the village will charge a nominal fee of RM2 to RM3 local fee to help look after your car.

At the foot of the Green Mountain Temple in Kuching, you must be ready to climb a long flight and a series of steps to reach the main entrance, guarded by fierce lion statues and the commanding figures of the heavenly gods. When I reached the top, I was very breathless, but the view was amazing and it would make you breathe. The green hills and blue sea surround the natural and tranquil environment. Really feng shui is great!

The temple underwent a massive renovation and renovation from 1994 to 2000, shining in the sun. This is an impressive sight: white walls, pillars and structures contrast with patterns of color, dragon, fish, red, green, blue, yellow and rainbow in each shade of the pattern and artifacts. The Green Mountain Temple covers an area of nearly 10,000 square feet. The main hall has an intermediate room and two left and right wings; a vegetarian restaurant; two public washrooms; a decorative fence wall; a beautiful garden; a fountain; and a pair of huge Buddha statues or Buddha statues. There are 108 golden auspicious traces or symbols engraved on it.

After climbing these steps and walking around the Green Mountain Temple to admire the temple, I am going to eat at the foot of the temple. People can taste fresh seafood and Muara Tebas is famous until today.

The catering event took place at the Lim Yong Seng Seafood Restaurant, one of the two seafood restaurants in Kampung Muara Tebas, Kuching. The other is Sin Soon Lee Seafood Restaurant, I have not tried it yet. What kind of gourmet lunch we have for lunch: steamed prawns, steamed crabs, steamed fish heads, steamed oysters, lobster sashimi, scrambled jungle ferns with belacan [spicy shrimp paste], stir-fry canangkok manis [local Vegetables] with eggs, served with steamed white rice, all washed with a vanilla coconut drink. Fresh seafood should be steamed, not too heavy to season or fry, and truly taste its natural sweetness and freshness. Although lunch is not cheap, considering the seafood dishes we order and consume, it is worth the money.

After a delicious meal, rest is necessary, we continue to sit and relax in the country atmosphere, watching the floating boats moored near the coastline and the dock area, listening to the tides of the tides, enjoying the interior of the cool restaurant with the sea breeze. However, the rotating fan around the outlet also contributes to the cooling effect. We left the most satisfying places of Green Hill Temple and Kampung Muara Tebas, continued to rest while driving back to Kuching City, and took a nap in the rest of the afternoon, at least after this sumptuous meal.
