At my camp in California, I wanted to have a little more mat on our outdoor dojo, so I simply stacked the mats together like two pieces of cheese. Also, if you do damage one of the puzzle mats, they are only easier to replace than replacing one of the backplanes. Simply peel off the damaged parts and replace them with new ones. If you want your mat to look new, you can also throw a cheap carpet on them. This way you can still get the mat, but protect the mat from dirt and cover the lines and interlocking puzzles on the edge of each mat.
