At my camp in California, I wanted to have a little more mat on our outdoor dojo, so I simply stacked the mats together like two pieces of cheese. When I want to clean them, I can easily separate them, then stack them up, spray them with a hose, and use cheap rags and some safe cleaners [depending on how dirty they are]. In order to dry them, I just put them in the sun. Try a complete one-piece mat that covers the entire floor, you need a crane, a fire hose and an incredible Hulk.
Few other things that are realized with puzzle mats are easily reversed. With this in mind, you have already laid expensive ONE traditional mats throughout the floor. However, there are things that can damage the surface of the mat. This may be a lot of use over time or accidents. Either way, you are forced to replace the entire floor with new mats. You don't need to replace them with puzzle martial arts mats. All you have to do is flip them over and they look brand new.
That's right, just use your mat for one or two years on one side, then flip the entire mat completely to get a new look. It's like getting two mats at the price of one person. Because these mats are easy to move and flip, you can also buy mats with different colors on each side. In this way, you can flip the mat and use it for your specific needs. For example, the fitness Taekwondo course can only be conducted in Black, while the Red side is used in karate classes. This may be important if you allow shoes to be placed on the mat in the Taekwondo course. So you have one side to allow shoes, one side only bare feet.
Also, if you do damage one of the puzzle mats, they are only easier to replace than replacing one of the backplanes. Simply peel off the damaged parts and replace them with new ones. If you want your mat to look new, you can also throw a cheap carpet on them. This way you can still get the mat, but protect the mat from dirt and cover the lines and interlocking puzzles on the edge of each mat.
