Tai Chi or Tai Chi is practiced around the world for its health benefits. In fact, many people who study and teach this ancient Chinese art practice and teach only for health and longevity. For some people, this is good, but they lack the artistic roots based on military applications. The actions that help to cultivate "chi" are rooted in self-defense. According to Dr. Yang, real Tai Chi is understanding the application of martial arts. This video show focuses on such applications of the form.
"Tai Chi Chuan 37 posture martial arts application" and Dr. Yang, Jwing-Ming said on the cover: "Learn the hidden self-defense actions in each Tai Chi posture" The plan actually provides much more than that.
The DVD began with Dr. Yang's speech on the whiteboard explaining his views on health and martial arts training. [He did bring a student to help explain and explain several concepts.] Dr. Yang is two experts, and his insights are instructive and educational. This lecture lasts for 36 minutes and covers some very important Chinese and military concepts.
Next is the demonstration of Tai Chi performance. Dr. Yang and his daughter, Casey, acted with subtitles at the bottom of the screen. It takes less than five minutes.
The third part of the DVD is the Tai Chi Chuan martial arts application - the first part. One thing I like at the beginning of this section is that Dr. Yang explains why today's Tai Chi is different from what he did in his first video in 1984. In this section, military applications from various actions are illustrated by Dr. Yang and his students. The instructions are clear, but there are subtitles at the bottom. Dr. Yang pointed out that this DVD only shows some applications, and he hopes that you can analyze the forms yourself to master the forms and techniques. This part of the program is about eighty-six minutes long.
Next is the second part of the Tai Chi Chuan martial arts application. Dr. Yang continued to use the student's application guidance to explain his teaching of the second part of the Tai Chi form. This part takes about 36 minutes.
Tajiquan Martial Arts Application - Part III continues to provide additional instructions for the third part of the form. Like the previous chapters, Dr. Yang showed the movements and applications of his students, as well as comments and explanations. This part takes about thirty-three minutes, including the final form. Dr. Yang once again said that this DVD only gives you an idea so that you can learn to analyze the form and discover the application yourself. He still needs time to thank his students and daughters. Then Dr. Yang and Kathy Yang once again demonstrated this form.
The DVD has an excellent menu that allows the viewer to go directly to the part of the show he or she wants to view. The pictures and lights are doing very well, and everything is a well-made instructional DVD. In addition, there is YMAA add-on content that contains information about YMAA, its directory, and a preview of many other titles.
There is indeed a lot of information on this disk. In addition to the application and encouragement of his own analysis forms, Dr. Yang also provides many tips and other information to make you a better martial artist. I believe this DVD is a must for those who want to better understand Tai Chi and martial arts applications in the form.
