Book Summary - Once Us - by Thomas L Friedman and Michael Mandelbaum

Thomas Friedman is a New York Times bestselling author. He wrote "The world is flat, hot, flat, crowded" is an excellent book. For those who care about our country, this book is a must read. It outlines these issues and discusses ways to get us back to the world's leading innovative countries.

Why is this important to me? I asked this question as if I was sitting in your shoes. This book is a must read in my glimpse. The lack of nature of the masses and the political stalemate have paralyzed the country and affected us all. It makes no sense for China to have a better railway system than ours. Singapore has a better airport than us. We just learned that China now has the fastest supercomputer on the planet - it used to be us. President Obama - On November 3, 2010, Thomas and Michael outlined the major problems and some positive energy that still exist in the United States. For the passage of time, I will summarize each of these five parts. The four challenges we face in the United States are how to adapt to globalization, how to adapt to the IT revolution, how to deal with the huge budget deficits caused by the government's growing growth, and how to manage in an environment of growing energy demand and climate change.

1. Diagnosis - If you see something, say something. Humans have a unique way of adapting to the environment. Unfortunately, we adapted to the bad things and started accepting them as normal. The author introduced a story that took more than six months to repair two escalators, each with 21 steps in the New York subway station. Politics, red tape and bureaucracy basically killed this project. In China, however, they can build a world-class conference center within 32 weeks. The terrible part of all this is - "People are used to it." Soon we will be numb to really stupid things and begin to accept the red tape provided by those who get paid anyway. This is a very terrible habit because the gap between the United States and the rest of the world is widening and we are falling behind. The country's infrastructure is collapsing. A personal example - our building is located in Southfield, Michigan, and we pay a $50,000 property tax each year. If your speed exceeds 20 miles per hour, the street in front of our building will destroy the front end of your car, because this road is so messed up.

2. Education Challenge - This is not a secret. We use investment funds to fund education, but the results are not good. We can argue all day who should be responsible, but the point is that families must take a proactive approach to education, otherwise the children will die on the vines. The key learning requirements are critical thinking, collaboration and effective verbal and written communication. Another major problem is that children need to be responsible and must establish professional ethics when they are young. The Chinese and the Indians work together for us. They were promoted by their parents. The success of the United States has basically made the country lazy. This is similar to a champion boxer who is no longer hungry and does not try to keep the championship. The author points out a businessman's statement that he is engaged in killing work. He is completely correct. Basically we have to innovate and automate everyday tasks. This means that software and intellectual property will replace ordinary work. This situation will continue to happen, why our education system needs critical thinking, problem solving and skills improvement. According to Wikipedia, the United States ranks 17th in the world in education, but the budget exceeds $900 billion annually. The execution and supervision of this expenditure was broken.

The Battle of Mathematics and Science - Arithmetic is not an opinion - Italian proverb. The war on mathematics is simple - no one in the government can supplement it. We are borrowing money from China to fight Iraq, Afghanistan and Libya. This is not the case with our spending, and investment does not exist. In the 1960s, President Kennedy created a goal to land on the moon in 10 years. What is the goal today? Providing people and making sure they don't have to work but still get checks? In addition, how can we get our banks to use derivatives to take advantage of our future, and no one in management knows what happened? To make matters worse, these executives collectively paid hundreds of millions of dollars while receiving bailouts. This is a war between mathematics and common sense. As we said before, Americans are used to it. Physics warfare is related to climate change and energy. The growth in energy demand and our lack of actual investment in alternatives need to change. The lobbyists and special interest groups blocked this.

4. Political Failure - I will not blame Democrats or Republicans. I will blame both for the polls, the selfishness of money and re-election. Our government has entered a special meeting in the past three years to ensure that the "economy" will not self-destruct. Think about it. President Obama has to raise the debt ceiling, otherwise the impact on the economy will be disastrous. This is his words. Anyone listening? I think we are just "habited."

5. Rediscover the United States - The good news is that every problem creates an excellent opportunity to solve the problem. Accepting the problem and hitting it is the cornerstone of our history. The little businessman who transformed the world from his garage - it all happened here. This needs to be cultivated and the problem needs to be solved from the bottom up. Waiting for Big Brother to solve our problem is the kiss of death. Don't let Dumb and Dumber decide your future. This is how our political system works. If we are not responsible for ourselves, we will be crushed by other countries. I will stop preaching. This is a good book that will let you open your eyes and see the problem. Remember, today's news is not news, but opinions. Bill Maher and Rush Limbaugh received ratings. I hope you find this summary summary useful. The key to any new idea is to incorporate it into everyday life until it becomes a habit. Habits are formed in as little as 21 days. One thing you can get from this book is that the United States needs a leader. This is still the greatest country in the world because we are free. This means we need to be leaders and bottom-up leaders. We need to take responsibility for continuous learning and innovation.
