Anyone with an inkjet printer knows that white text is impossible. Inkjet printers do not have a white ink cartridge. So how do you get white text on a building, model or vehicle? Start with white decals! Our Hobby Decal paper is a matte finish, white, for use with Inkjet inks! There is more good news, you don't need a "fancy program" to make white text. The following is an example of using Microsoft Word, where most people have Microsoft Word installed on their computers.
Let's open Microsoft Word and make some white text on the background color. First, on the View menu, choose Toolbars and then select Drawing toolbar. Select an elliptical or rectangular shape from the drawing palette. You will cut off most of the shapes, so the shape you choose is not important.
Now you need to fill the rectangle with a color that is as close as possible to the train or model color. If it is not already selected, click on your rectangle to select it. On the drawing toolbar, there is a painting can. The paint next to it can be a small downward arrow. Click the arrow and you will see the fill color. At the bottom of the color is a button that shows "More fill colors..." Click the button and then click the "Customize" tab, you can try many color choices. Make a few rectangles and fill each rectangle with a different shadow, print it out on plain paper and try to use the color on the train. In this example, I chose dark green as the fill color.
Now I want to add white text to my rectangle. Again in the drawing toolbar, there is an image of the page containing the text. Click on this image and click anywhere in the rectangle. Don't draw a box, just start typing text and it's time to make the font of your choice. Usually, the font menu is displayed at the top of Word. Select the text you just typed by clicking it, hold down the mouse button and drag the mouse to highlight it. Select any font and set it to bold or italic if needed. Next, select the font color by clicking the arrow next to "A" in the font toolbar. Select white as the font color. For my example, I chose Franklin Gothic as the font color for the font, bold and white.
Don't worry if your rectangle is larger than the text, anyway, you will cut out all the extra content after printing. If you want to add a logo image, choose Insert from the top toolbar and add the image to the rectangle. Now you are all ready! Print your image onto our Hobbycal decals and cut off the background color as much as possible. Don't cut between letters, because it's hard to align the letters correctly!
