Gong Li (forward energy)

Gong Lik is often translated into Forward Energy or Forward Press and is well known for its many martial arts, but its use and execution vary from art to artist.

The main function of the main force is to strengthen the position of the arm by generating additional force by skillfully utilizing the principles of force vector and muscle mechanics.

Gong Lik can be expressed in two ways, which can be divided into linear or neutral [non-linear], each method has its own specific purpose and advantages.

The linear approach involves combining 50/50 simultaneous forward intent and forward energy. Thus, for example, when rolling a hand in a Chi Sau scene, the arm and body will continue to move forward into the target, so that if the opponent suddenly removes the resistance, it will increase the speed and effect of the attack. This type of use has produced a famous kung fu expression "hand, detain; hand, follow; hand lost, spring forward".

The second method can be described as neutral or non-linear, involving only forward intent. This causes the hand to gain extra strength and will not shoot forward if the resistance is taken away. When using this method, it is always more difficult to read the energy of the arm because they produce an impression of forward energy, and in fact only the intent. This allows for greater flexibility and control when reacting to sudden changes in nonlinear motion. This type of use has produced a famous kung fu expression "The enemy does not move, I don't move, the enemy moves me first."

Finally, the most important thing is that the two types of Gong Lik methods allow a combination of Fau Lik [floating] and Chum Lik [down pressing], and in each case, the effectiveness lies in how to skillfully combine and apply the above two. In practical applications.
