The gem felt calendar is very decorative and very interesting to make. If you have already made one, then you are most likely to take the time to look at all the designs until you finally have the perfect design. Then you spend a lot of time carefully sewing all the beads and sequins. Finally, you appreciate the year of the beautiful artwork hanging on the wall. But now it is out of date, what do you do with it? Please don't throw it into the trash! With a simple makeover, you can turn it into a birthday, other holiday and even another wall hanging banner.
Please follow the steps below to recycle your calendar:
- Make the paper pattern the same size as the calendar area of the wall calendar.
- Choose the light color of the felt to match the other colors on the wall. Use the paper pattern to cut the same shape from the felt.
- Identify the phrase you want on the new banner. Some of the choices are "Happy Birthday", "Welcome", "Welcome to my kitchen", "Happy Spring", "Autumn is great", even your last name.
- The challenge now is to print this phrase on a new felt shape. The method I recommend is to design text on image processing software such as LView or Photoshop. Be sure to flip it horizontally and then print it onto plain paper using a laser printer. If you don't have a laser printer, just print it on an inkjet printer and make a copy from a copier that uses toner. Most self-service copiers use toner.
Use a medium temperature to place the printed phrase face down on the felt and iron for approximately 45 seconds. Now you can use your pattern on felt without the need for expensive transfer paper!
- Embroider the text on the felt with a cotton embroidery thread. It is best to use satin stitches to make the words more visible. Decorative sequins and beads that match the sequins and beads in the rest of the calendar.
- Hang the new felt on the wall with a cloth glue or embroidery needle.
